Bio-Poem for a Literary Character 3/11/14

Curious, confused, open-minded, and intelligent.
A character in Daniel Keyes's story.
Lover of Alice, all things short and soft, and his job at the bakery.
Who notices when people laugh at him and stare, and he notices when people are angry with his actions.
Who feels worthless and neglected because of his disability, and like he isn't learning anything.
Who learns that he is a very special person because he can go through mazes, and take many tests to save others like him.
Who says "I had reached a new level, and anger and suspicion were my first reactions to the world around me."
Who used to think he was stupid, but now he knows he can be smart like everyone else.
Major character in Flowers for Algernon
A book that teaches you that you should be be grateful for everything you have.
