Prompt: What surprises you in the book the most? Why?
Pages Read: 100-235
In Dorothy Must Die, Amy has been challenged in many ways. She has to do things most girls her age wouldn't even know about. She has seen and experienced things that some people can't even imagine in their wildest dreams. I am very surprised that Amy has agreed to fight Dorothy and anyone in the way of that goal. Many people have invested their time and effort into Amy learning so many new things in one month, that most people learn in many years. Some people feel sympathy for her, while others don't care about how she is feeling or if she is struggling.
Something that surprised me the most was that they chose an ordinary girl. She is expected to learn how to fight, how to use magic, and how to be clever with Dorothy. I bet if they had choose, they would have picked someone else who is much more talented and skilled. They could have picked someone who knew how to fight, or who knew how to use some sort of magic. They could have picked someone who is evil or someone who is not like Amy. Amy is the kind of girl that minds her own business, and I can not see her killing someone who is so much older and stronger than her. There is a wizard named Nox, and I am thinking that he is starting to catch feelings for her. There is also one lady named Gert, and she can see the future. I wonder if she knew that Amy was going to come...
Something else that surprises me is the word choice the author uses to describe the setting, mood, tone, etc. Even though this isn't in the book, I just have to make a connection. I wonder why the author chose to change the original Wizard of Oz, and why they changed the characters. The author uses Amy's point of view to show how she see's everything. Since she is 14, her word choice isn't very difficult to understand, but there are times where other characters are more educated and wise, so they use more adult-like words. I really like the way the author formats the character's emotions.
What is the word choice you are referring to? I'd love to hear some examples!
