Divergent Week of: 1/21/14

Pages Read: 61-132
Prompt: Describe the important ideas in this story.

This book is really good. I would have never believed that what has happened, happened. I was really surprised with everything Tris has done and said. She seems like she is reserved and respectful but she has shown a person. She is going to get a tattoo of 3 birds. I was surprised when she agreed to getting the tattoo. It is going against her family's rules, her own rules, but it does show that she committed to the Dauntless faction. She has gone through so much and so far, this is only the beginning. She may not live, but the world may never know. (Or I will never know, for now.)

One important idea from this story is that you need to fit the part of your faction. This means that if you want to be part of the Candor faction, you must always tell the truth. If you are part of the Abnegation faction, you may never show any self love or you can not look at yourself in the mirror. The Dauntless faction is when you are brave and you will do anything. Another main idea of this book is that if you are part of a faction, you stay there and you must not leave. You have to obey your faction no matter what, and if you don't something will happen. The last main idea is that once you leave your faction, you can't go back. If you leave your family, you can't go back. Tris can not see her parents until visiting day, and that only comes once every year or something. She is not very happy with her faction, but now she needs to deal with it. Sometimes I feel bad for her. She needs to go through all fo this training, pain, and she can't back down.

To be honest, I think that Tris is very brave. She has overcome fear and she can't do anything about it. She is smart, and she is determined to live her new life the way she has done it so far. Tris has gone out of her comfort zone and she knows that one day her life will change forever. If I were Tris, I would not be very happy. I would have done some different things that she has. I would have picked a different faction, pick different choices, and gone down different roads. If I were in her shoes I would have picked the Amity faction. I can't change what Tris does, so it's hard for me to control what I think about what happens.

  4. Amelia,
Great blog this week, I really enjoyed it! I was also surprised with some of the things Tris did. I still can't believe she chose Dauntless. Also, when she did, I was pretty upset, like you seem to be. I wanted something crazy to happen, and maybe she would end up choosing a different faction, but it didn't. Though, once you get farther into the book, you get more used to it. I also think you did a great job explaining what you think were the important ideas in the story! Overall, great blog this week, and I look forward to reading more of your blogs in the future.

  5. Amelia,

I really like your blog this week! I hear that Divergent is a good book but I have never read it. I really like how you described Tris, she seems like the type of person that needs to earn your trust. I feel like Tris is also someone who tries their best to accomplish what they want because they have seen failure so many times before. What is a faction exactly? You did a really good job with this blog!

    1. A faction is like a center where you have to stay and live there. You choose your life pretty much.
