Divergent Week of:1/13/14

Prompt: Describe the main characters.

The first main character I'm going to describe is Tris. She doesn't really know what she wants to do with her life. She was born into the Abnegation faction, and it has come the time where she gets her own choice. She took the placement test and so many people were surprised with what happened. Usually if someone takes the test, they have na obvious choice of a faction, but Tris got something called Divergent. This is when she only eliminated 2 possible factions and now she has the choice of Amity, Dauntless, and Abnegation. Her family wants her to pick Abnegation so Tris can stay with her family, but Tris and Caleb see a different future. Tris wants to explore, but she doesn't want to be in her comfort zone. She is used to being in the Abnegation faction, that just isn't what she wants. When she got to the ceremony when she picks her faction, her brother goes first. He goes to a different faction than Abnegation. Tris was next and she chose the unexpected. Dauntless. I never thought that she would pick that faction and my jaw dropped while I was reading. She now needs to jump off of a building and then she in the Dauntless faction.

The next main character is Caleb Prior. He is Tris's brother and he is a little older than her. He loves to read, and he is very smart. He knows that faction he wants to go to, and he doesn't want to stay in Abnegation because he knows that he doesn't belong there. He loves his family, but he needs to worry about himself and he needs to think about his future. In the Abnegation group, you worry about other people and you can't worry about yourself. This is called being "selfless" and he just doesn't fit into that faction. When you pick a faction there are 5 bowls with different objects that represent the faction. You need to cut your palm and drop your blood into the selected bowl. That makes you a part of the faction.

My last main character I'm going to talk about it Christina. She picked the Dauntless faction too, and she is very curious about things that might happen. She is the one who helped Tris get onto the bus, and she is also the one who helped Tris jump off onto the roof. Christina is Tris's first friend in the Dauntless faction, and Tris really likes her. I like Christina as a character and person because she is smart, cool, curious, and she is very brave. She reminds me of myself sometimes. She doesn't give up and she is strong mentally. I think that Christina is my favorite character so far.
