The House on Mango Street #2 Blog

Prompt: Which character is most like you?
Pages Read: 63- DONE

The character that is most like me is Esperanza because she is always trying to protect her friends and she is always willing to help anyone in need. She is starting to grow up and I can really relate to her. She is started to become a woman and this is a new stage to her. She seems like a real girl that is relatable. So many people these days can relate to her because what she is going through, everyone is going through too. She is starting to see all over her power that she has over men and boys. She was sexually assaulted and now she is trying to forget about it but she really doesn't know how to.

Sometimes I feel bad for her because she has gone through so much that is way worse than what I have. I really look up to her because she is only 12. She is starting to gain responsibility in her community and now she reminds me more of myself. She is starting to see herself as a part of the community and she is giving back and supporting people. I like this part of her because no one is telling her to do those things, she does them on her own. She's a writer and that is helping her get through her break through to become a young adult. It has given her some privacy and she is really smart for finding a way to get out of it.

In the end of them book, Esperanza's friend, Sally, seems to encourage Esperanza to become more mature. The she realizes that she has matured way too quickly. Esperanza writes a piece about a girl who didn't want to belong. She realizes that she will one day leave Mango Street but then come back to help those who were left behind. She is a good girl at heart, but she starts to change in the book. She has a very dramatic change, and she realizes that the change can be good or bad.
