Divergent Week of: 2/17/14

Prompt: Does the title fit the story? Why or why not?
Pages Read: 217-349

I honestly think that the title fits the story really well. In the book, Divergent is when the head people don't know what fraction you truly belong in. You either have a choice between a lot, or you are ruled to one specifically. In this story, Tris had a choice between a lot, and they called her Divergent. When you are ruled out as being Divergent, you are looked at differently and no one can know. This was hard for Tris because she desperately wanted to tell her family, but she promised that she wouldn't. When she found out she was Divergent, she didn't know what to think. She was confused, and worried about what would happen to her.

When I looked Divergent up in the dictionary it said: tending to be different or develop in different directions. This shows that the title actually meant something to the book, and it was used in a proper way. I really thought that the name was made up, but apparently it wasn't. In Science we are learning about divergent boundaries. This has nothing to do with the book, but I just wanted to make a connection. In this book, the title is used as every day language for them, but the problem is that you can't tell anyone about it. If you wonder if someone is Divergent, you watch their every move and step. You watch very closely, and you never forget what they do and how it changes who they are.

I am really surprised with what happens in this book. There are so many twists, and the book keep getting better and better. It has so many details in it, and it explains everything really well. The characters are really cool, and well formed. I really find it interesting how a person can write a book, and then other people find the perfect people for that role. The whole process is just really amazing.

  3. Amelia - Try not to be vague when discussing your book. You mention the twists in the book..what twists? Why do you like it? Does it make the book better? Try asking yourself those questions when writing. I like the graphics you included.

  4. Divergent is a real word?? I seriously thought it wasn't! Now that your blog has shown me that it is, my team name (the 7A Divergent(s)) has a whole new meaning. Also, I've seen a lot of people reading it and I've seen the fact that it's a movie now, but I don't actually want to read it. I've heard that it is very similar to The Hunger Games series, and it actually took me awhile to get into that series so I'm not exactly eager to read this series. In my opinion, it'd be really awesome if you could give more of a description of the book in your next blog. It would really help! Other than that, great blog!
