Prompt: Describe the main characters.
Pages Read: 0-45
I love this book! It is full of interesting stories and jokes! They show the different stories and how they were made, and why they were made. I like how it tells the stories from a narrator's eyes, but then if something is going to happen, the author steps in and talks to you. I really like books like these because they make me feel like the author knows how I'm feeling, which is cool. So far, the book is about Hansel and Gretel but way before they were born. It talks about Faithful Johannes and his adventures. Where I'm at in the book, Johannes has been put in the dungeon because he burned a gold dress, that was the princess's. This book is just starting off, but I can tell it will be great.
I chose this prompt because I can describe all of the main characters really well. I bet you all know who Hansel and Gretel are right? Well, they are kids who go through the forest, and they find a gingerbread house and start eating it. They find out that an old witch lives there, and she wants to eat them. Faithful Johannes is a character who is smart, nice, faithful, and very loyal. He will do anything for someone in need, and he will support anyone who needs help. The princess is a girl, and she loves gold. She would do anything for a gold necklace, bracelet, and a gold dress. My favorite character is Faithful Johannes because he is a friend that I would like around me. I would like him as a friend, and he sounds like he would really care.
I have read all of the things people have to say about this book, and they are all really great! They have comments from newspaper people, critics, and other important writers. There is a quote on the cover from Rick Riordan saying " A wonderful sense of humor and narrative voice... completely fresh and unique." Coming from a great writer, I would feel so honored. Another comment was " One of the years' best children's books." I personally don't think this is a children's book. It has gruesome facts and it is very serious, and witty at the same time. It has jokes some kids might not understand or like. I recommend this book for every age, except for younger children.

ReplyDeleteI love this book! I read this last year in lit. I also like how the narrator jumps in and talks to you. Do you have a favorite character? (:

ReplyDeleteI've never actually read this book but I have heard of it. I really liked how you described the main characters, and gave an outlook of what the story is about. Nice blog post!
I remember some kids read this book last year. I heard it was good. Well you sound excited about it. I might read it some time in the future. Good blog.
ReplyDeleteI heard this book was amazing. I have seen some other people with some other books byt the Grimm brothers. Maybe I should read them.
ReplyDeleteRemember when the "endangered" authors came to the school and explained and asked questions about their books? After that I really wanted to purchase the book... Nice blog overall!
ReplyDeleteAmelia,
ReplyDeleteGreat blog this week! You did a great job describing the characters! I've read this book also, and I don't think my description would be any better! I also like how you started off with a summary, to get us into what the book is about. I also like how you explained that the Author explains his thoughts throughout the story too, I really liked that aspect of the story. Overall, great blog this week, just be sure to stay with your prompt through the whole blog (the last paragraph was kind of off topic.)
