The Healing Spell: Week of 9/30/13

SPOILER ALERT!!!

Prompt:   If you could talk to the author, what questions would you ask? Why?
Pages read: 16-95

Livie has a terrible secret. Her mother is in a coma, and she has something to do with it. Her whole family thinks something else happened to her. Livie knows that she did something wrong, but doesn't know what to tell her family. She was with her mother when she got into her deep sleep. Livie needs to help her mother get out of a coma before anyone finds out about what she did.

I chose this prompt because it really is interesting to talk about. Some of my questions are: Why did you write this book? Can you relate to the book? How did you come up with the idea of the book? I really wanted to ask these questions because the book shows so many different emotions from the characters. The main character, Livie, is always sad, or happy at many different times. When she is near her mother she is embarrassed and sad. Sometimes she doesn't even want to look at her mother. Her sisters, Faye
and Crikett are thinking about their mother's coma differently. They think their mother is going to die, and they don't know what happened to their mother, so they don't know what to think. The character's emotions are super important because it shapes the character and the book.

I wonder how it feels to be in Livie's shoes? She has a secret that can cost her mother's life. She knows she should tell someone, but she can't. I know that I were in her shoes, I probably would tell someone. If my mother's death was involved, I definitely would. Her family is suffering and she knows that. She has an aching feel in her stomach when ever she sees her mom. I think she needs to tell someone what happened to her mother and maybe the doctor's can help her mother. What ever happened to her mom, must be really bad. I wonder what Livie did?

  1. Amelia,
I found your article to really tell the emotions that the writer wanted the reader to feel, I also liked how you put yourself in her shoes,"She knows she should tell someone, but she can't. If my mother's death was involved, I definitely would." Although I also found it a bit redundant. It was cool how you did a little informative paragraph at the beginning.

  2. Amelia,
You had a great way of writing your blog. The questions you would ask were great. This sounds like a very interesting story. You are right about how the characters emotions shape the characters and book.

  3. Amelia,
You're blog this week was great, it made me really want to read your book! I love how you described how each character felt differently about their mother's coma. I also thought that putting yourself in "Livie's shoes" was a great idea. I sometimes think like that when I'm reading a story. This book also reminds me of another book I've recently read call "Love, Aubrey." The little girl in that story felt it was her fault her mother left home, just like Livie felt it was her fault that her mother was in a coma. Your descriptions, and textual evidence make the story sound extremely interesting, and I will hopefully be reading this book in the future.

  4. Amelia,
I really admire the type of questions you would ask the author like, "Why did you write this book?". I also liked that you chose the main points of the story to say and didn't put much detail. You also put why you chose those questions if you were to ask the author and that really helped me to understand what made you choose those type of questions. I really enjoyed reading your blog!

  5. I love meeting authors and asking them about their books! Have you ever met an author before?
