The Clockwork Three Week of 9-18-14

Prompt: List three new vocabulary words from your reading. What can you tell about them from their structure?
Pages: 0-45

Well, I haven't been reading a lot and I just got this book. So far, this book is pretty interesting. The main character's name is Giuseppe and he has been kidnapped from his home. One day, Giuseppe finds a green violin floating in the harbor and he tries it out. He figured out that it gives a very beautiful sound, and he is given so much money from people everywhere in the streets. He gets an idea to use his green violin to get a boat ticket back to Italy where he had been kidnapped from. I think that this could be a good thing because he will finally get the chance to go back and see his family! I predict that he will try and get enough money from that amazing violin, to buy his ticket. I just don't know how he is going to escape from his master...

There were a lot of words that I did not know in this book, and I had to use the words around that specific word to understand what it was about. One word was "automaton" and it means a moving mechanical device made in imitation of a human being. I knew that the prefix auto- meant automobile, which helped me know that the work meant something that you make by yourself. Another word I didn't know was "analytical" and it means relating to or using analysis or logical reasoning. I knew that it sounded like analyze, so I tried to guess if they almost meant the same kind of thing, and I was right. So far, I have seen a lot of words that I know, but there are still many that bewilder me.

One more word that confused me the most was "offal" and it meant the entrails and internal organs of an animal used as food. When I read the word, I was thinking that it would be something not as disgusting. I was kind of surprised when i read the definition because the context didn't make it sound like that. I am kind of happy that I started reading this book, because now I have learned a lot of new words that I never thought I would learn.
